Mexican sicilian pizza (Issue 5)

Mexican style Sicilian pizza is something that only exists in Fresno. It combines the traditional style of Sicilian crust with the familiar Mexican ingredients. There are a thousand ways to make this pizza, those who make it will add or skip several ingredients, but this is a simple version of a famous dish: Ingredients for…

Mind Pie (Issue 6)

Mind pie is a simple recipe that is meant to fascinate, or to fuel fascination. Simply make a graham cracker crust and fill it with a box of cream pie/pudding filling. On top of the filling, add an avocado-sugar (2 tbs)-sweetened condensed milk (2 tbs) mixture. You may use ½ or a whole avocado, depending…

Odd Fresno (Issue 1)

When I go to the bar, I always ordered an Odd Fresno, and no matter the place, the bartender will immediately know what you mean. No one will tell me what’s in it or how to make it, and no one will hire me because they know I’m trying to find out. I have attempted…

  • Fresno brownies (Issue 3)

The winter season in Fresno is a unique time which statistically receives rain rather than snow. The leaves change from a violent red blush to a dull brown and fall onto the asphalt and into the rain gutters. The mix of dead leaves and muddy sludge reminds the passer-by of the blustery and robust cold.…

SEND A CARD TO YOUR FRIEND

Buy that postcard or card with a whimsical design from that bookshop or stationary store out of town. Sit at a cafe. Write a note on scratch paper to your friend from out of town. Tell them what you’ve been doing with your life. Ask them what they’ve been doing with theirs. Draw a little doodle on the card, even if you can’t draw. Send it to your friend. The illustration or the one phrase from that card/postcard might turn into a page in your zine or novel. This has happened at least once with the zine Frazno!
